Malaysian sold $25K Soul Stone Sets Record for MTG x Marvel Card

A recent crossover between Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and Marvel has become a sensation in the world of collectible crossover items. One collectible MTG card is Marvel Infinity Stones. MTG card Soul Stone (SPM #242) pulled live from a booster pack sold for $25,000. This card is the most expensive MTG x Marvel card. The card sold on Collektr, the top livestream auction platform in Asia for collectibles. This auction further established the collectible value of MTG cards.

The collectible MTG cards in question are the Soul Stone and the Thanos Infinity Stones. The cards titled Thanos and Soul Stone are a part of the Marvel Spider Man MTG set. Thanos has legendary status in the Marvel universe as a powerful villain, and soul Stone is card representing added powers of Thanos in the set. The Soul Stone card has the soul energy ability which allows card holders to resurrect and return cards to the battlefield, a powerful ability no card in the MTG universe has. The card allows players to contest with other powerful cards in the MTG universe. Collectors value cards with legendary powers.

The Soul Stone

A Live Pull That Lit the Fuse

On September 26, the card’s journey to stardom started at The Collective, a Wizards Play Network (WPN) Premium hobby shop located in Shah Alam, Malaysia. Live streamer KimoEZ, famous for his high-energy unboxing sessions, opened a booster pack for the new Marvel’s Spider-Man TCG. During the session, he revealed the cosmic foil variant of the Soul Stone – a textless, shimmering edition that is considerably rarer than the standard versions, with some estimates putting the print runs at just a few hundred copies around the globe.

In an interview after the auction, KimoEZ said, “I could hardly believe my eyes… This card, live, here in Malaysia? It was like winning the lottery, like winning the card lottery, actually! But, the subsequent auction price? Unbelievable! It’s the stuff of legends – like Thanos snapping his fingers, but instead of disappearing half the universe, we are building one collector’s dream deck.”

There was no time wasted on listing the card in the Collektr Marketplace, and starting an auction where the starting price was auction was set at RM55,000 (about USD 13,600). It was an auction frenzy, where 43 bids were placed for 10 loyal collectors from Malaysia, Thailand, the USA, South Korea, and Europe. To further stimulate the excitement in the last 25 minutes of the auction, Collektr set up a livestream auction which attracted thousands of viewers who were eager to watch the price increase.

Global Bidding War Ends in American Triumph

A thrilling atmosphere surrounded the auction as the final minutes counted down. The winning bid came from Michael Caffrey, an American collector and owner of TOAMagic, an MTG specialty store. Caffrey cashed out for $25,000 (RM105,100) which not only obliterated the average price of the set, but also surpassed early sales of other Soul Stone variants which recently sold for $10,500 on eBay and $15,000 on secondary markets days after the set’s prerelease. You can watch the livestream on Collektr

“This isn’t just a card; it’s a piece of Marvel history fused with MTG innovation,” Caffrey said. “The cosmic foil treatment gives it that otherworldly glow, and owning the highest-sale copy? It’s the ultimate flex for any fan who’s ever dreamed of wielding the Infinity Gauntlet at the kitchen table.”

Why the Soul Stone Commands Such Power

At its core, the Soul Stone’s allure lies in its rarity and narrative punch. In Marvel lore, the orange gem allows its wielder to manipulate souls, a power echoed in the card’s mechanics: “Indestructible: Add {C}. {2}, {C}, Exile a creature you control: Harness the Soul Stone. At the beginning of your upkeep, return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.” The textless cosmic foil version, devoid of rules text for aesthetic purity, appeals to high-end collectors who prize art over utility.

Experts predict this sale could catalyze further crossovers, with Wizards teasing more Marvel integrations. As one analyst noted, “MTG’s 30-year legacy as a collectible has met Marvel’s billion-dollar IP – the results are pure market magic.”

For now, the Soul Stone’s shatterproof legacy rests in Caffrey’s collection, a testament to how a humble card pull can rewrite record books. Aspiring hunters, take note: The multiverse is vast, but the chase cards are fleeting.
